Broadcast journalist and Arise TV anchor, Oseni Rufai, has raised alarm over what he described as a politically motivated move to bring down his Facebook account.

In a post shared on his X handle, Rufai wrote, “I need 50,000 people to write to tell Facebook that the attempt to bring my Facebook down is politically motivated and malicious. Let’s do it. They want to silence me.”

His statement quickly drew attention online, with several Nigerians reacting in support and others questioning his claim.

One user, @oyinmi05, urged, “Please drop the link or a handle that will redirect one to the page where we can write to them.”

Another, @kingkabasa, wrote, “Please post the link to where we would write it… we no go gree.”
@IgNwoko added, “If Facebook shuts you down, it means it is managed and funded by rotten Nigerian politicians. Tinubu’s government is prepared to do anything to silence all Nigerians to subvert the truth.”
Similarly, @EIPETERSEIPETE1 commented, “Na Yoruba Ronu and Janjaweeds dem dey do this one. Omo Nizooria na horror movie.”

User @MarkA37365 said, “You will get more than 50,000, drop your official Facebook handle and the format for writing.”
Another supporter, @NnajiTheophilu2, appealed directly, “@facebook you must not bring down @ruffydfire account; he is the voice of the common man in Nigeria.”

Some, however, expressed skepticism. @Alexandander85 asked, “Politically motivated? Are you a politician? I thought you are a journalist.”
@LexAkindumila questioned further, “Did you violate community guidelines? If you didn’t, then there won’t be any reason to bring your page down.”

A few others offered calm advice. @CletDesign wrote, “Let’s create hashtags for it.”
While @SimeonAdeo48019 urged Facebook not to yield to pressure, saying, “They are against him because he speaks truth to power in Nigeria’s political space.”

Despite differing opinions, Rufai’s post has sparked a wider conversation about social media freedom and alleged censorship in Nigeria.

Oseni Rufai is best known as one of the anchors on Arise Television’s The Morning Show. Over the years, he has interviewed several government officials and political figures, often engaging them on governance, accountability, and national policy issues. His approach to questioning and commentary has sometimes drawn both public support and criticism, particularly from political circles who perceive his tone as confrontational.
