Social Media Erupts As Timi Dakolo Calls Out Tinubu’s Aide Over Unpaid Debt
By Benjamin Abioye
Nigerian gospel singer, Timi Dakolo, has publicly called on O’tega Ogra, a senior aide to President Bola Tinubu, to explain an alleged unpaid debt. The singer took to his X page (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night to demand answers, though he did not specify the amount owed or the nature of the work performed.
“Mr @otegaogra please pick your calls. I did my job,” Dakolo wrote, urging Ogra to respond.
Ogra, however, replied cautiously, maintaining a professional stance. “I see and have noted the commentary. I will not engage in explication when there is none required. My record is public and stands on its merits. Any further attempt to personalise a clearly institutional matter will be met with formal correction and the appropriate and professional legal redress,” he stated.
The exchange has generated a flood of reactions from Nigerians online, reflecting mixed opinions on the matter.
CertifiedBoy (@ybnlhurlexy) commented: “Funny thing is, if Timi had refused the job, they’d call him ‘unpatriotic.’ Now he did it, they’re treating him like a volunteer for a federal awareness campaign.”
Queen Precious (@diamypresh) added: “Call his oga na, na oga dey pay side na.” Meanwhile, Bro Code Health (@Bro_Code_x) wrote: “This is the nature of politicians and top business people, they are really fond of not paying for job done for them.”
Other users expressed hope that Dakolo would eventually be paid. Favrit Engr (@FavritEngr) said: “Hnmm, I’m very sure he’ll get the alert in no time after this beautiful movement.” Similarly, KitsRepublicNG (@KitsRepublicNG) quipped: “They den play this one 1:0. Oga go rest ur preside den scam you.”
Many also pointed out broader frustrations with the treatment of artistes. Moses Augustine (@kingdonranney) questioned: “Why are those men not paying the musicians they use during campaigns? Terry G also laments… this is where the Nigeria factor sets in… change your ways.”
Other comments highlighted the human side of the dispute. Nsikan Umoh (@chaco_umoh) advised: “If you don’t have the money at least pick your call and let him know while you work on collecting a loan from FairMoney to pay.”
More Reactions:
DreamsAndPills (@pharmaonchain): “E go soon enter, maybe na network. Abi Tinubu don enter limit?”
I_@m_Sepp (@josephhorlan): “Wahala no dey finish for this country I’m telling you.”
gskill (@0xgskill): “Yikes, that’s rough. Gotta pay your bills, Timi!”
Cathie (@GraceSpeaks2024): “Damn! 😯”
temi (@temi_sui): “Imagine begging politicians for crumbs then crying when they treat you like staff.”
The incident has stirred conversations about fairness, honesty, and how artists are treated in Nigeria, showing that many Nigerians care deeply about accountability from those in power.
