In a WhatsApp message shared on Instagram on Wednesday by Gtext Homes chairman, Dr. Stephen Akintayo, Maduka clarified that his earlier comments were not directed at the celebrity barman, despite online speculations suggesting otherwise.

He wrote, “I have just discovered also the above, even though I never met him nor attended any of his events, and if I did, I cannot remember. I never had him in mind when I said what I believed was a wrong value system we have embraced. I respect his views because he is entitled to his opinion, and I wish him the best of life. May God bless him.”

Maduka’s clarification came after a video of him condemning the culture of flaunting wealth and the popular expression “money na water” went viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users.

In the viral clip, the billionaire businessman stressed that no truly wealthy individual uses such phrases, adding that Nigerians must move away from glorifying waste and reckless spending.

Many interpreted the remark as a subtle jab at Cubana Chief Priest, who famously coined and popularized the term “money na water” as a symbol of affluence and ease in spending.

But reacting via his Instagram stories, Cubana Chief Priest fired back, insisting that Maduka’s opinion was outdated and failed to reflect the realities of the digital era.

According to him, the billionaire’s generation focused on building factories and physical assets, while today’s generation thrives on visibility, attention, and online influence.

He wrote that “visibility has become the new currency” and that “content is not noise but digital equity.”

Cubana Chief Priest further argued that the phrase “money na water” should not be mistaken for wastefulness, but rather as a symbol of liquidity, influence, and the power to attract opportunities.

He also urged Maduka to “remove himself” from the list of billionaires like Tony Elumelu and Femi Otedola, whom he praised for using their wealth and platforms to promote Africa’s image globally.
