Wike ‘Mocks’ Mbah, Diri Over Defection To APC (Video)
By Gideon Ayeni
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reacted to reports that Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside key members of his government.
According to a Facebook post by Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the governor reportedly left the PDP with the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all 22 PDP lawmakers in the state assembly.
The development, announced during Wednesday’s State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa, appears to confirm long-running speculations that Diri was preparing to dump the opposition party. However, his spokesperson did not specify which political platform the governor intends to join next.
Reacting to the news, Nyesom Wike took a subtle swipe at his critics, saying those who once accused him of working against the PDP are now the ones defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) through his media aide, Lere Olayinka, the former Rivers State governor wrote:
“WIKE: Those who said I was working with the APC to sabotage the PDP are, themselves, moving out of the PDP to the same APC. Shouldn’t they be thanking me for making their dream a reality?”
