In a bizarre twist that left an entire Indian village stunned, a 74-year-old man identified as Mohan Lal faked his own death just to see who would show up to mourn him.

The incident took place in Konchi, a small village in Bihar state, where Mohan, a retired Air Force veteran, staged a full mock funeral complete with a decorated bier, mourners, and traditional rites while he lay pretending to be dead.

According to reports, word quickly spread that Mohan Lal had passed away, prompting hundreds of villagers to rush out to pay their last respects. Many joined the funeral procession, unaware that it was all a setup.

But just when the crowd reached the cremation ground, the unbelievable happened — Mohan suddenly sat up from his casket, shocking everyone present.

Explaining his unusual stunt, Mohan said he simply wanted to know how many people truly cared for him while he was still alive.

“After death, people carry the bier, but I wanted to witness it myself and know how much respect and affection people give me,” the 74-year-old said unapologetically.

To pull off the act, he enlisted the help of a few relatives who spread news of his “death” around the village. The plan worked perfectly until he revealed the truth.

Although his actions initially angered some residents, Mohan quickly made peace with them by organizing a large feast for everyone who attended his fake funeral.
