Trust Gone Wrong: Lady Narrates How Friend Left Her Stranded In Dubai
By Benjamin Abioye
A lady who had saved for months and trusted a close friend to arrange her accommodation in Dubai has shared how her long-awaited trip turned into a heartbreaking story of betrayal and survival.
The lady, identified on TikTok as @iamjamirah1, said she sent her friend money to book a place before her arrival, believing everything was settled. But the moment she landed in Dubai, things fell apart.
According to her, the same friend she had known since high school — the only person she knew in Dubai — suddenly disappeared and switched off her phone. “You think you can hurt me? The person that was supposed to pick me up from Dubai airport on November 16th 2022 left me stranded for seven hours. She switched off her phone yet she was the only person I knew in Dubai,” she recounted emotionally.
She explained that they had communicated throughout her boarding time. “She was my best friend in high school. I trusted her so much that I sent her my accommodation money so she could book a place for me before I arrived in Dubai. We were chatting until I boarded, and she convinced me she would arrive at the airport earlier than me,” the lady narrated.
However, upon landing, her excitement turned to shock. “When I reached the airport, I looked around and didn’t see her. I thought maybe she would come late. When I tried to call her phone number, it was switched off. I waited for seven hours, but nothing. Remember, this was my first time coming to Dubai,” she said.
Stranded and confused, she was eventually helped by a kind stranger who assisted her in finding a place to stay. “A stranger helped me find accommodation and settle in. Till now, her phone remains off,” she said.
Her story has since sparked widespread conversation on social media, with many people sharing similar experiences and reactions.
A user, @C4collectionzz, wrote: “The same thing happened to me when I travelled to France. My cousin left me stranded with my 8-month-old son in the cold. I had to call a friend in Germany who helped us. I paid for another flight I never planned.”
@AshleyN.Tall added: “Darling, I have been there! Not Dubai, but I’ve been left stranded by family in a foreign country.”
Another user, @Meli_Melo, advised: “Next time, book an Airbnb or hotel yourself. You could have done it alone without sending her the money.”
@lesaeilly said: “That’s why I’m no longer interested in having so-called best friends. These people can be our worst enemies. I promise you, you’ll never cry again.”
Some commenters also accused the missing friend of jealousy. @stormzyfleur wrote: “She couldn’t contain her jealousy anymore. She was okay as long as you didn’t enjoy the same things as her. A thief to boot! But Galatians 6:7 — they will reap what they sow.”
Others shared their personal stories of betrayal. @Rosebud Foodies said: “I left home with a supposed friend to write post-UTME exams in Minna. She disappeared a few hours after we arrived. I was helped by a guy and his friend. Wherever you are, Stephen Olude, may you never be stranded. God bless you.”
Adding to the testimonies, @Just Jamie🦋 revealed: “To everyone saying maybe something happened to her — no, she’s alive. Someone told me they saw her in Al Ain and another said Ajurman. She keeps moving because she knows what she did. Apparently, I’m not the only victim.”
@Em✨ expressed empathy: “It’s always those close to us. I have a story to tell one day. Hugs, girl.”
@Sunnies🔌 in Lagos shared: “God bless the soul of an in-law who accommodated me around 11pm in Benin when I was travelling to Asaba for NYSC. She didn’t know me but took me in with a drip in her hand. May her soul rest in peace.”
Meanwhile, @Shiru-Ngugi-UGC suggested: “Can we normalize tagging fake agents and exposing scammers so others don’t go through the same?”
And @Eva💃💃💃🇳🇬 recalled: “I used to stay with my childhood best friend because of work distance. One day she came home shouting that she was tired of sharing her bed. That night I slept on the floor. Years later, she encouraged me to relocate to America — but I still couldn’t trust her again.”
The lady’s story continues to trend online, with many describing it as a painful reminder that trust can sometimes come at a heavy price, especially when money and travel are involved.
