Tragedy has struck the Lagos State Police Command following the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division.

Ngbaronye reportedly passed away on Friday at a hospital in the Surulere area of Lagos State. Her death came just five months after she marked her last birthday on May 24.

Security expert, Zagazola Makama reports that she died in the course of fibroid treatment.

Until her death, CSP Ngbaronye was widely respected within the police force and the Festac community for her dedication and firm stance against crime. She assumed office as the DPO of Festac about six months ago and immediately declared a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities in the area.

Ngbaronye joined the Nigeria Police Force on April 19, 2010, and over the years, held several key positions within the Lagos State Command. She once served as the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO) in December 2020, where she earned praise for her professionalism and effective communication.

Her earlier postings included serving as Crime Officer at Dolphin Estate Division, General Investigation and Fingerprint Expert at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Panti, and Officer-in-Charge of the Public Complainants Bureau.

CSP Ngbaronye also represented Nigeria internationally as a Public Information Officer under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), where she showcased outstanding service and commitment.
