Relief has finally come the way of the widow from Isieke, Awo-Omamma in Imo State, who was recently subjected to a cruel ordeal after being accused of killing her husband.

According to fresh reports, officials from the Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs, in collaboration with security operatives rescued the woman following widespread outrage over her inhumane treatment.

It was gathered that the team visited the community to secure the woman’s release and ensure her safety before proceeding with her husband’s burial.

The victim had reportedly been locked inside her late husband’s ambulance for over two hours and later forced to drink the water used to bathe his corpse—a supposed “traditional test” of innocence.

Authorities confirmed that the woman is now safe, though details about the punishment for those involved in the act remain unclear at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, many have commended the swift intervention of the state government, describing it as a step toward ending barbaric widowhood practices still being enforced in some communities across Nigeria.
