New Twist In Kano Hisbah – TikTokers Marriage Saga
By Gideon Ayeni
The Kano State Hisbah Board has called off the much-publicized wedding between popular TikTok content creators, Ashiru Idris, better known as Mai Wushirya, and Basira ‘Yar Guda.
Deputy Commander of the Hisbah Board, Mujahedeen Aminuddeen, confirmed the development, saying investigations revealed that the proposed marriage was not based on genuine intentions but was instead a tactic to evade legal consequences from an ongoing morality case.
“We discovered that the proposed marriage was not genuine but meant to escape legal issues. So, we cancelled it to prevent future problems,” Aminuddeen stated.
He further disclosed that although both social media personalities had already undergone medical tests to check their compatibility, the Hisbah Board halted the process immediately after uncovering the truth behind the arrangement.
According to him, if the issue remains unresolved, the matter will be returned to court for further action.
The duo had earlier faced charges before Magistrate Halima Wali of a Kano court over alleged immoral conduct, following a viral video posted on Wushirya’s social media page.
During the proceedings, both TikTokers claimed they were in love and planning to marry. Consequently, the court referred the case to the Hisbah Board to facilitate a proper Islamic marriage and report back within 60 days.
The directive, however, sparked widespread criticism online, with many Nigerians accusing the authorities of forcing a marriage on the pair.
Reacting to the backlash, the spokesperson of the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo, clarified that the public had misinterpreted the court’s ruling, explaining that the intention was not to impose a marriage but to ensure due Islamic process was followed.
