Two-Storey Building Collapses Lagos

At least fifteen people have been pulled out alive after a two-storey building collapsed early Monday morning at No. 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in the Oyingbo area of Lagos.

Emergency teams, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations for those still trapped under the wreckage.

Reports revealed that the building had previously been declared unsafe, and residents were instructed to vacate the premises before it finally caved in around 12:20 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said:
“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which had reportedly been marked as distressed before collapsing on the occupants. So far, 15 people—seven adult males, four adult females, and four children—have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries.”

She added that the injured victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, and the General Hospital in Odan, Lagos Island, for medical attention.

As of 6:00 a.m., no deaths had been officially confirmed, while search efforts continued for those still feared trapped beneath the debris.

The incident caused panic in the community as residents and sympathisers joined rescue officials in frantic efforts to save more lives.
