Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has admitted that he is facing pressure from several political figures to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at an event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos over the weekend, Mutfwang made it clear that he had no plans to switch parties, stressing that only divine direction and the will of the people could influence his political journey.

“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me. But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people. Have you asked me to go anywhere?” he asked, as the audience replied with a loud “No.”

His remarks came shortly after some APC leaders in Plateau State denied rumours suggesting that the governor was considering joining their party.

During a recent APC meeting in Jos, a motion proposing Mutfwang’s defection was dismissed after a figth back by some influential leaders of the party who it was alleged are afraid of losing their influence. The motion, raised by Festus Fuanter, a former deputy national secretary of the APC, was rejected through a voice vote, though the motion has been flayed by some critical elements in the party who allege a sinister plot by some APC leaders to pursue their selfish aspiration at the expense of President Bola Tinubu’s second term.

Responding to their stance, Governor Mutfwang described the rejection as unnecessary, claiming that most APC members in the state would actually be happy to welcome him.

“So, those who are rejecting me for what I didn’t even ask for are wasting their time. The truth is that 60 to 70 percent of the people in the APC in Plateau would be happy to have us join them. They know I will not do that, and that’s why they’re angry and twisting things,” he stated.

He concluded his remarks by saying he would not dwell on the issue further, adding, “It’s a story for another day.”
