Suspense As Nigerian Prophet Cautions Congregation On OPay (Video)
By Gideon Ayeni
A Benue-based cleric, Prophet Aliyu Barnabas of the Mercy and Grace Deliverance Ministry in Ukum, has created a social media confusion after releasing a prophecy claiming a dark cloud over popular mobile banking platform, OPay in the coming months.
In a viral video making rounds on social media since October 27, the preacher alleged that OPay’s operations were backed by “ritual powers,” warning Nigerians that their funds could mysteriously vanish between December 2025 and January 2026.
“Many people will wake up and discover their money is gone,” Prophet Barnabas declared with a sense of bravado.

The prophecy has since sent shockwaves across social media, with many OPay users expressing fear over the safety of their savings. Some Nigerians said they were considering moving their money to traditional banks, while others dismissed the message as another baseless “doom prophecy.”
The company is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and all customer deposits are insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) up to ₦500,000 per user — a safety net that prevents loss of funds in the event of any system failure.
OPay, which boasts millions of users nationwide, has previously been a target of misinformation regarding its financial health. In past instances, the firm swiftly debunked false claims, reassuring customers of its operational stability.
As of press time, OPay has not officially responded to the viral prophecy.
