After Lagos Drama, Sarah Martins Takes Free Meal Outreach To Canada (Video)
By Benjamin Abioye
Actress Sarah Martins has once again captured public attention after a new video showed her sharing food with homeless people in Canada, weeks after her controversial encounter with Lagos taskforce officials during a charity cooking event.
In the footage posted on her verified Instagram page, the actress, who runs the Golden Heart Foundation, documented how she purchased groceries, prepared meals at home, and later distributed them to people in need on the streets of Ottawa. The project, she said, was sponsored by @suyaroyale and @ricci_products, and aimed at “spreading love globally.”
She wrote, “Spreading my LOVE globally 🇨🇦❤️❤️. Through the sponsorship of @suyaroyale and @ricci_products, I had the opportunity to spread my love in the city of OTTAWA CANADA 🇨🇦. It was such an exciting experience — from going groceries, to cooking with the CEO of @suyaroyale, to sharing the sumptuous, well-spiced 150 packs of food to the homeless people on the streets of Ottawa.”
Her latest act of charity comes weeks after she was assaulted by Lagos taskforce officials for cooking in public while serving food to the homeless. The altercation led to injuries and the confiscation of her cooking materials. Shortly after the incident, Sarah Martins received N20 million in donations reportedly facilitated by friends of Seyi Tinubu, though Tinubu later clarified that the funds did not come directly from him.
The new video has since generated wide reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing mixed views on her approach.
Clifford Chimaizuobi Igbo (@Chimaizuobi) wrote, “She travels to Canada, and the next thing you know, she realizes she can actually cook in her own kitchen.”
Esen (@SemiNigerian) added, “So she can actually cook it in her house and pack it in bags to share? Meanwhile, she was constituting a nuisance by cooking on the streets of Lagos.”
User AremuBlack (@AremuBlack) said, “So, she can actually cook from home and package the food to distribute on the street. Why didn’t she cook on the street of Canada? It is only in Nigeria that people cry victim when they break the law.”
Oluwasegun (@stqinless_) commented, “I thought she would be cooking at the express in Canada ni 😂😂😂😂.”
DecodewithLOGOR’ (@_Logor) described the move as strategic, saying, “Incredible rollout. A case study and masterclass in attention farming and value pivot.”
Duke of Africa (@Allezamani) said, “She now suddenly knows how to package food from home?”
Meanwhile, olloche (@olly_spirit) defended the actress, arguing that “they tried to dim her light in Lagos because of tribalism. Now she’s doing wonders in Canada and being appreciated by people who understand kindness.”
Your Mum’s Boyfriend (@QuadriOdewunmi) wrote, “In Nigeria, you cook on the road median to share food with people, but now you are in Canada, you suddenly know to cook in your kitchen and then share it outside.”
Anthony (@PurpleKingTony), a Nigerian living in Canada, took a softer tone: “Was going to hate, but cooking for homeless folks is amazing.”
Khone (@kingkhone4real) disagreed, claiming, “She was not harassed; she was constituting a nuisance for clout.”
Wuraolabisoye (@WuraPeppa) asked, “She for cook for road na, abi Canada no get street?”
Abel (@Abelpter) joked, “Maybe because Canadians would not accuse her of trying to poison them if they don’t see her cooking it.”
xodope (@Sodopeofficiql) noted the difference in social order, writing, “White people too dey coordinated 💯. Imagine say na Nigeria you wan share that food! Line go don scatter!”
TopGuy (@dizneyx) also weighed in: “I want to see her cook on a major road in Toronto.”
While opinions remain divided, the actress appears undeterred, insisting that her mission to feed the less privileged will continue globally. For many observers, her move from Lagos to Ottawa reflects not just a change in location, but a lesson in adapting goodwill within the bounds of the law.
