Delta Government Flags Off New Skills Initiative
The Delta State Government has expressed gratitude to God and all stakeholders for the successful flag-off ceremony of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills – Innovative Vocational Education and Training (IDEAS-IVET) Initiative, held on October 27, 2025.
The groundbreaking programme, jointly sponsored by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, and the World Bank, aims to equip Nigerian youths with globally competitive vocational and technical skills.
The IDEAS-IVET initiative is designed to drive youth empowerment, job creation, and sustainable economic growth, with a strong focus on developing capacity in the oil and gas, building and construction, and other high-demand industrial sectors.
Representing Governor Oborevwori at the event, the Senior Special Assistant on Oil and Gas, Engr. Chief S. K. Anomi, delivered the Governor’s goodwill message and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to skills development and economic inclusion.
“Our administration remains unwavering in its commitment to human capital development and in delivering the dividends of democracy to all Deltans,” the Governor said.
“We deeply appreciate the support of President Tinubu and the World Bank for their collaboration in empowering our youth and strengthening our state’s economic foundation.”
The Governor emphasized that the IDEAS-IVET initiative aligns with his MORE Agenda — focusing on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security — and reinforces Delta’s vision of becoming a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

According to government officials, the programme will not only enhance technical competencies among young people but also create an inclusive ecosystem for innovation and productivity, bridging the skills gap between education and employment across key sectors of the economy.
The Delta State Government reiterated that it will continue to champion initiatives that promote innovation, youth employability, and industrial growth, while ensuring that Deltans are equipped with the tools needed to compete in today’s dynamic and technology-driven global economy.
The IDEAS-IVET programme is expected to empower thousands of youths across Delta’s senatorial districts, strengthening local industries and driving long-term economic transformation in the state.
