According to residents, the confrontation looked more like a gang war than a school brawl, raising concerns about the growing culture of violence among youths in the city.
Some social media users linked the development to early exposure to political thuggery and cult recruitment, noting that several of Ibadan’s past gang leaders including the late Ekugbemi, Ebila, and Ege, reportedly started from similar school fights before being drawn into larger political and street gangs.
Older residents who spoke about the incident recalled that school rivalries have long been part of Ibadan’s youth culture, but expressed worry that modern-day fights have become more dangerous due to the use of weapons.
The authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
