Coup Plot Sylva

The Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, Chief Julius Bokoru, has denied claims linking his principal to an alleged coup plot. He described the reports as completely false and politically driven.

Bokoru said the former Bayelsa State governor had no involvement in any coup-related activities, insisting that Sylva remains a loyal democrat and a strong supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, the rumours were spread by political opponents trying to damage Sylva’s image ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He, however, confirmed that Sylva’s Abuja home was recently searched by individuals believed to be operatives from the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, some damage was said to have been done to the property.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the operation, considerable damage was inflicted on the property,” Bokoru said.

He further explained that the reason for the raid was not made known by the security agents and added that Sylva and his wife were not in Nigeria when it happened.

“As of my last communication with His Excellency, he was undergoing routine medical checks in the United Kingdom, after which he was scheduled to attend a professional conference in Malaysia,” he stated.

Bokoru emphasized that Sylva’s political life has always been rooted in democratic principles, noting that his loyalty to President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unwavering.

He urged the public to ignore the baseless rumours, pointing out that the Defence Headquarters had already denied any claims suggesting a coup plot in the country.
