Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has gifted a retired judge, Hon. Justice Hadiza Ali-Jos, a brand new Toyota Corolla after learning of her transportation challenges in retirement.

According to reports, the gesture came after the Chief Judge of Borno State, Hon. Justice Kashim Zannah, informed the governor that the retired judge was facing difficulties moving around since leaving office.

In response, Governor Zulum reportedly described the situation as “intolerable and unacceptable,” noting that someone who served the country with such integrity deserves to live comfortably in retirement.

The Chief Judge personally delivered the car to Justice Ali-Jos at her residence in Abuja on Monday, October 27, 2025.

Justice Hadiza Ali-Jos, who is widely respected for her integrity on the bench, made national headlines years ago when she served as Chairman of an Election Petitions Tribunal. She had rejected a $200,000 bribe from desperate politicians and later handed the money over to the government before delivering her judgment against those who attempted to compromise her.

Her exemplary conduct has long been cited as a model of judicial integrity in Nigeria, earning her praise from colleagues, the legal community, and the public alike.

Governor Zulum’s gesture has since been commended by many Nigerians, who described it as a well-deserved recognition for a woman who upheld justice without compromise.
