OPay Breaks Silence On Viral Shutdown Prophecy (Video)
By Gideon Ayeni
Barely hours after a Benue-based pastor, Prophet Aliyu Barnabas, tendered a public apology over his viral prophecy predicting the collapse of OPay, the fintech giant has finally responded and it’s a confident clapback.
In a post shared on its official X handle, OPay dismissed rumours of any impending shutdown, assuring Nigerians that the company remains strong and committed to its long-term vision.
“Shutting down keh? When we have a 10-year commitment to empowering futures! We full ground!” the company wrote.
OPay added that it will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary with the Empowering Futures Conference 2025, featuring popular media personality Nancy Isime as host. The event, tagged #OPay10yrsScholarship and #OPayEmpoweringFutures, aims to highlight the company’s journey and the positive impact it has made on millions of Nigerians through digital banking and financial inclusion.

The post came shortly after Prophet Barnabas, leader of Mercy and Grace Deliverance Ministry in Ukum, Benue State, apologized in a video circulating online for his earlier prophecy, where he claimed that OPay’s operations were backed by “ritual powers” and would collapse before December 2025.
The cleric, whose video went viral on social media, admitted he did not mean to harm the company or its users. “I’m sorry if my prophecy affected your business. It wasn’t intentional but what God told me,” he said in his clarification.
Meanwhile, financial experts and users have continued to reassure the public that OPay is fully licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and is insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
With OPay’s recent post reaffirming its stability and celebrating a decade of operations, the company appears unbothered by the controversy sending a clear message that it’s here to stay.
