Controversy As Normally Quiet Governor Rolls On Church Floor In Worship (Video)
By Benjmain Abioye
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji known for his quietness has stirred online debate after a video surfaced showing him rolling on the church floor in deep worship during a service.
The clip, shared by user @EkitiArshavin, captured the governor lying prostrate while the choir ministered in songs.
“This is Ekiti State Governor, @biodunaoyebanji rolling on the floor to praise God,” the poster wrote. “This is very unprecedented in the history of Ekiti State. Humility beyond the position of power.”
The video quickly gained traction, drawing a mix of admiration, criticism, and reflection from users across social media.
One commenter, *@me_steriouz, argued that performance mattered more than public worship, writing: “BAO needs to do more for his people rather than dishing out their money to old politicians, oppositions and elders of the state to garner support for second term. God cannot be mocked or deceived. *@seyiamakinde, a super Gov in Oyo didn’t fall from the sky. He needs to spend….”
Responding to criticism, the original poster @EkitiArshavin defended the governor’s record. “BAO has never stopped doing what the people requested for in Ekiti, providing roads, Hospitals, building schools, paying salaries and gratuity and pensions at when due.”
Not everyone saw the gesture as humility. @netgeria reacted with satire, asking: “I beg what is the name of the church, may be na where God answered his prayer and handed over the treasury of Ekiti to him…”
Another user, @OmoniyiAkintobi, questioned the celebration around the act: “Humility is when an underperforming governor won a second term ticket by imposition or by using state resources to buy over people? Unprecedented my foot!!!!”
@Rotleo3819 also criticised the praise: “Unprecedented cos someone is praising God? So this is also an achievement… You people should stop over hyping politicians.”
The reactions grew sharper in tone in some corners of the thread. @Olubanki shot back bluntly with: “Screw you id!ot.”
In a similarly harsh comment, @kingspath7 said: “What has rolling on the floor got to do with good governance?? No we should clap for him for rolling on the floor in Gods altar; & equally forgive him of all lapses!!”
Another user, @aiceH2O, wrote: “Nobody can deceive God, someone will steal people’s money and be rolling on the floor.”
From a governance perspective, @obumneme added: “He will finish this and still inflate contracts… African religiosity is demonic.”
Others felt the moment was overblown. “Kini big deal?, other Nigerians do it everyday out of camera glare – this is showmanship,” wrote @yomideyi.
Still, some comments appeared unrelated or dismissive. @YomiAbdul2 posted: “Christian Massacre kee Una there!!!” while @donspud74 teased: “Hope he will roll again after the election?????”
“You people are 1996 far behind,” added @joe_ayo55, implying the conversation was outdated.
Governor Oyebanji, popularly known as BAO, recently secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for a second term, strengthening his position ahead of the next governorship election.
The video has reopened conversations about religion, leadership, optics, and accountability — a recurring theme in Nigerian politics, where public displays of faith often intersect with public scrutiny.
As the debate continues, supporters view the moment as sincere worship, while critics describe it as symbolic showmanship. For Governor Oyebanji, the viral clip arrives at a politically important time, with both his faith and governance record now under renewed public observation.
