Former Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani, has taken to social media to share a subtle but witty message to political supporters following reports of reconciliation between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, as well as between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In a post shared on his official X handle, Sani advised Nigerians who had insulted or fought others while defending their preferred politicians to go back and make peace, noting that political rivalries often end in sudden reconciliations.

He wrote:
“Fubara has reconciled with Wike and Natasha with Akpabio. Check your previous comments and seek forgiveness and make peace with those you abused and insulted on their behalves. And learn some few lessons or repeat that class again with carryover on top.”

Sani’s post comes shortly after Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan invited Akpabio and other lawmakers to a major project commissioning scheduled for Sunday in her senatorial district. An event that surprised many given their past disagreements, which are still reportedly being contested in court.

Similarly, Governor Fubara and FCT Minister Wike, once fierce political rivals, have recently reconciled, putting an end to months of political tension in Rivers State.

Sani’s message has since sparked wide reactions online, with many users agreeing that his statement perfectly captures the unpredictable nature of Nigerian politics where allies can become enemies overnight, and enemies can reconcile over dinner the next day.

Read some netizens’ reactions below;

@yayaoseni; I can’t mention names oo, they are plenty.. Aisha, Obiagali, that mad boy, house of rep guy, all TV stations lawyers, Rufai O, AriseT, who remain?

@ECEwill: On the contrary, people were against the perceived “INJUSTICE and POLITICAL BRIGANDAGE”. associated with those incidents.

No body actually took a side. Or were there?

@sadam: Politics has no permanent enemies, only permanent interests.
Those who fight blindly for politicians always end up learning the hard way when the same people they defended reconcile behind closed doors.
It’s a reminder that wisdom in politics means supporting principles, not personalities.
Next time, let’s argue with sense, not sentiment, so we don’t end up carrying over lessons we should’ve learned long ago.

@ladi_etti: Yes you politicians only allow division to fester amongst the people that voted you in. So you know what to do to reconcile our divisions but you blatantly ignore or exacerbate the situation for personal gain.

@dannymasterp: Nigeria youth can never learn to engage like this in this our politics game as they’all take everything extreme hate you permanently once you don’t align with their beliefs and party bigotries Lol
