Bwala’s Plans For Trump, Tinubu Meeting Come Under Fire
By Gideon Ayeni
The planned meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and U.S. President Donald Trump over the alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria has set the social media abuzz with many Nigerians criticizing the Tinubu administration for what they describe as hypocrisy and delayed response.
GWG.ng reports that the backlash came after Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, revealed that the two leaders would meet to discuss terrorism and religious violence in Nigeria.
But on social media, particularly in the comment section under Bwala’s post, Nigerians questioned the government’s sudden urgency following Trump’s warning, despite years of silence on recurring killings across the country.
Many users accused the Tinubu administration and its officials of denying or downplaying the persecution of Christians in the past, only to start speaking up after Trump’s statement gained international attention.
Others argued that the U.S. president’s remarks only confirmed what many Nigerians have been saying for years that Christians in several parts of the country have been systematically targeted and killed.
Some commenters also wondered why top officials, including those in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, suddenly became vocal after Trump’s statement, when they had previously ignored local and international concerns about religious killings.
Read some netizens’ reactions below;
@u_rochas: It’s too late, your government denied it, and now we’re at stage two. Shetima should also join President Tinubu whenever he visits Trump, although it’s practically impossible for president Tinubu to visit White House now.
@tenoverten: Mr Bwala, you are part of the problem . Can you let honest and sincere people tell Tinubu what is going on with them.
@iamossy: Why have you changed your tone?
@Benignus: I don’t understand this government, first you blatantly denied the existence of Christian Genocide, and now you’re gradually moving away from your previous position. Is it gonna be like the case of presidential pardon, where you pardoned & came back to review your own decision?
@lehtyu: Now it’s both 😂 🤪 you lots are so funny sha … I thought we gave him the middle finger when the USA senator spoke about the genocide now both leaders share same interest … unna no get shame sha
@deboss: Federal government should do their first duty as a government to end insecurity. Stop attacking America coz if federal government had end insecurity in Nigeria then America government won’t come up with anything. America government want federal government to provide protection to every Nigerian. End kidnappers in Nigeria. Killings are happening in Nigeria everyday and federal government can’t sit up as a government and protect all Nigeria citizens.
@iheme: My observation is that there’s a change in the tone compared to your previous posts.
Let the healing begin.
@iamPOD: Again, I am amazed at how suddenly everyone is beginning to speak. The USA is truly a super power and the mention of whose name, everyone the the villa trembles. Because tell me how/why the president has spoken, his spokesperson has spoken, the ministry of foreign affairs has also spoken even while not having a single ambassador at any of our embassies around the world! Everyone seems to havr suddenly woken up on a matter that has been on for a long time now. It took one statement to WAKE everyone up! America we hail thee…
