Founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi, has expressed outrage after being falsely linked to the heated controversy between U.S. President Donald Trump and Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu over the alleged killing of Christians in Nigeria.

The respected cleric was reportedly angered by a viral publication credited to an online news outlet which claimed he had denied the existence of Christian persecution in Nigeria. The fake report, published on Saturday shortly after the United States designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” for alleged violations of religious freedom, falsely quoted him as saying, “America is trying to steal our natural resources, there is no Christian genocide in Nigeria.”

Reacting from Asia, where he is currently leading a series of international crusades, Pastor Kumuyi, through an official statement from the Deeper Life Christian Ministry, described the publication as “false” and “a figment of the imagination” of its authors.

The statement read:

“Any recent news reports or public statements being attributed to Pastor W.F. Kumuyi are false and are a figment of the imagination of the writers and publishers. Pastor Kumuyi is fully engaged with the Global Crusade with Kumuyi (@TheGCKHQ), which has recently held events in Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and Pakistan. He has not granted any recent press interviews or made public statements on other matters.”

The ministry further urged media organizations to exercise restraint and verify information before publication, adding:

“We kindly request that all media outlets retract this false information and commit to verifying all future reports before publication.”

The fake report quoting Kumuyi surfaced amid growing international scrutiny of President Tinubu’s handling of religious conflicts, following Trump’s incendiary comments threatening U.S. military action to “protect Christians in Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, GWG.ng had earlier reported that Onitsha-based preacher, Prophet Odumeje, recently lambasted Christian leaders for maintaining silence in the face of what he described as worsening governance and moral decay in the country — a remark that has continued to divide the Christian community.
