BREAKING: ‘Most Powerful Vice-President In U.S. History’ Who Called Trump A Coward Dies
By Benjamin Abioye
Former US Vice President Dick Cheney has passed away at the age of 84, his family announced. Cheney was a key figure in US politics and was known for pushing the decision to invade Iraq. He served two terms as vice president alongside President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009.
Cheney played a major role in shaping America’s response after the 9/11 attacks and was seen as one of the strongest voices behind the “war on terror.” Many people viewed him as one of the most powerful and also one of the most divisive vice presidents in modern American history.
In his later years, Cheney often clashed with former President Donald Trump. Tensions grew especially after Cheney’s daughter, Liz Cheney, became a leading Republican critic of Trump and challenged his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his role in the January 6 riot.
During a campaign ad supporting his daughter, Cheney strongly condemned Trump, saying: “In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who was a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump.” He added, “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He is a coward.”
Last year, Cheney revealed he would vote for Democrat Kamala Harris instead of Trump, a move that surprised many who remembered his long conservative career.
Cheney had long struggled with health issues, surviving five heart attacks. In 2013, he reflected on life, saying he woke up each day “with a smile on my face, thankful for the gift of another day.” He even had the wireless function on his defibrillator disabled because he feared terrorists could hack it and harm him.
As vice president, Cheney rebuilt the image of the office, using behind-the-scenes influence to shape policies on Iraq, terrorism, presidential power, and energy. He once joked about his reputation, asking, “Am I the evil genius in the corner that nobody ever sees come out of his hole?” and adding, “It’s a nice way to operate, actually.”
Despite his confidence, many of Cheney’s claims about Iraq later proved wrong. He argued Iraq was linked to the 9/11 attacks and promised US forces would be welcomed as liberators. He also declared the Iraqi insurgency was nearly over in 2005, long before the conflict actually eased.
Cheney once believed the US invasion was the right path and never backed down, even as evidence and opinions shifted against him.
