Reactions Trail Senator Natasha’s Airport Drama (Video)
By Benjamin Abioye
A short airport drama involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has triggered strong reactions online, after she said immigration officers briefly stopped her from traveling and held her passport, allegedly on orders from Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Although the passport was later returned, Nigerians on social media have been voicing concerns — not just about her experience, but what they say it represents for ordinary citizens.
Many users expressed fear that if someone with political office and legal knowledge could face such treatment, the average Nigerian may have little protection.
@Prinz_Land said, “If this can happen to a Senator — a lawmaker and a lawyer — imagine what a regular person is facing.”
@Harewoh commented, “Until the law starts treating everybody the same, things like this won’t stop.”
@joel_kalyx wrote, “If a senator can be handled like this, what chance do we have as ordinary citizens?”
@davidsilasb13 added, “They’re doing this to someone in government with power — what about those with nobody to speak for them?”
Some questioned legality and due process.
@moyoninuoluwa asked, “Was there even a court order to seize her passport?”
Others simply expressed frustration with governance and power abuse.
@oyinlomodiamond reacted, “Nigeria… every day something new.”
@officialtomcitylight1 wrote, “This is pure misuse of power.”
@shaddylinks noted, “You could hear the pain in her voice. This oppression is too much.”
@phaatyaat1_ lamented, “This country exhausts me.”
Some commenters directly called for accountability.
@iam_diamondlady said, “Let this woman live in peace, honestly.”
@dolaxx1 asked, “What exactly is going on in this country?”
@yettieyetty wrote, “The abuse of authority here is frightening.”
A sense of helplessness ran through many posts.
@slimberry8 said, “There was a country called Nigeria.”
@bigx_leo echoed, “If they can bully a sitting senator like this, imagine the everyday Nigerian.”
And others questioned the system’s competence.
@hauweei_trendycreations remarked, “Very embarrassing — all for ego and power.”
@cakingfast added, “If she wasn’t supposed to travel, shouldn’t she have been formally notified? Why wait until the airport? We lack structure.”
While neither the Senate President nor immigration officials have commented yet, the online mood is clear — many Nigerians see the incident as symbolic of deeper issues around power, rights, and accountability.
