Family members of actress Regina Daniels from Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State have given her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, 48 hours to accept the bride price paid for her. They also asked him to stop what they described as harassment of her relatives.

In an open letter signed by Favour Awele Obi on behalf of the community, they accused Ned of ignoring their culture and using his power against Regina’s family.

“With due respect to your office and person, we must express deep disappointment over your recent actions concerning our sister and her family. As a people, we value peace, fairness, and respect for our cultural traditions,” the letter read in part.

The group explained that in Ogwashi-Uku tradition, marriage is not forced. If a woman chooses to leave, her family must return the bride price. They said Regina’s family tried many times to do this, but Ned refused to accept it.

They noted that if he continues to reject the bride price, “the bride price would be deposited at Ikeleke Quarter in Ogwashi-Uku,” which would mean the marriage has ended according to their customs.

The community also condemned the reported arrest and intimidation of Regina’s relatives. They said such acts were “oppressive and an affront to our people and long-standing traditions.”

The letter, which was shared online by Regina’s elder brother Sweezzy and actor Stanley Ontop, urged Ned to allow peace by respecting tradition and ensuring that all detained family members are released.

Earlier this week, Regina said her estranged husband ordered the arrest of her brother and sister because she refused to go back to him.

Regina Daniels and Ned Nwoko married in 2019 and have two sons. As of now, he has not replied to the letter.
