‘God’ Stops Another Tanker Fire Disaster In Onitsha

Another major fire disaster was averted on Friday morning in Onitsha after rain descended on the city to help douse out fire that broke out after another petrol tanker fell its contents into a canal in the commercial city. It was described

It was gathered that the incident happened at Omagba Phase two in Onitsha at about 4am on Friday, when a tanker fell, spilled its contents  and caught fire.

A source close in the area noted that, “PMS laden tanker early this morning lost control and rammed into a parked caterpillar in front of Bessoy Filling Station, along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Onitsha, As the product flowed through the canal, its fire was spreading too.

” The tanker started emptying its content on the tarmac, parked cars and balls of fire erupted.” 

Another eye witness said that “We called the Onitsha fire service, but they said they didn’t have a functional vehicle, we called Awka, and they said they were coming, but miraculously, it started raining and the Delta State Fire Service came too and helped to put out the fire.”

The rain was described as an act of God.

Meanwhile, immediately the fire broke out at about 4am, residents of the affected area vacated their houses for fear of being caught by the fire.

Friday’s incident happened within days of the earlier disaster that has led to the death of six persons.
