Confusion on Wednesday enveloped the release of the timetable for the national convention of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) as it was shadowed with the news of the zoning of the office of national chairman of the party to the North-Central.

The initial news of the zoning of the national chairman to the North Central came with the prospect of the elimination of candidates from all other zones. It also came with the panorama that Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State would have had his presidential aspiration immediately cut off.

The timetable for the national convention was released shortly after a meeting of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, that took place at  at the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the schedule, the party would first receive the Interim Report of the National Reconciliation Committee headed by a former governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu, on January 31.

It also said consideration and adoption of report of state congresses, inauguration of state executives, sales of forms to all aspirants vying for national offices would take place on February 2, 3 and 14, 2022, among others.

The schedule for the APC convention was signed by secretary of the caretaker committee, Senator John James Akpanudoedehe who also cleared the confusion over the zoning of offices.

Meanwhile, the confusion over zoning of offices including that of the national chairman was cleared on Wednesday by Senator Akpanudoedehe who dismissed reports that the party has zoned its offices.

“I’m here to debunk the fake news going round on the social media that we have zoned offices. We are yet to meet on the issue of zoning,” he said.

Meanwhile, an APC National Chairmanship aspirant, Dr Sani Shinkafi, has said he would maintain the supremacy of the party at all levels if given the mandate at the convention.

He stated this on Wednesday while speaking to newsmen at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

He equally promised to promote and strengthen internal democracy within the party.
