An Abuja-based lady and civil servant,  Mrs Esther Anaagu on Friday dragged her husband, Emmanuel, before a Customary Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, for allegedly attempting to kill her, by poisoning her drinking water.

The petitioner, who resides in Ajata said this in the divorce petition she filed against her husband before the court.

“I can’t continue to live under the same roof with this man, he wants to kill me. One day, as I entered the room, I saw him with my drinking water.

“He was shaking it as if he was mixing something in it. But it didn’t occur to me that he was trying to poison me, until one day I caught him putting a white substance into my water.

“When I confronted him, he said it’s nothing. I am suspecting my husband is trying to kill me slowly. It is on this ground that I want to get a divorce,” she said.

Besides accusing her husband of poisoning her drinking water, the petitioner also told the court that her husband has no tangible means of livelihood.

“I am the one who caters for the family needs, even the car he is using for transportation, I bought it for him, so why is he trying to kill me,” she asked?

The respondent, Emmanuel, who is a taxi driver, in his defense denied the allegations.

The presiding Judge, Labaran Gusau advised the couple to explore all the available means of settlement, for the sake of the children.

He, however, adjourned the matter until March 3, to get the probable report of settlement/hearing. (NAN)
