Questions In Anambra Over Stella Oduah’s Alleged Return To PDP

Chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC in Anambra North are forged in an unusual anxiety over the alleged moves by Senator Stella Oduah to return to the PDP.

The defection which is expected to come within days, according to party sources would mean a return for the two term senator to the party she left just few months ago.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Oduah defected from the PDP to the APC in August 2021 giving as her reason, the need to “change the political narrative,” in the Southeast.

However, her defection came in the wake of her trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over her alleged misappropriation of N7.9 billion in public funds arising from her time as minister of aviation.

She is yet to take a plea in the case. When the case last came up in November 2021, the judge deferred it upon a claim that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, San had requested the case file.

It was alleged in court by the defence counsel that Malami was petitioned over the claim that Senator Oduah was being persecuted and not prosecuted.

Since then the case has stalled, a development that has fueled speculations that her defection from the PDP to the APC was to avoid the prosecution.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the penultimate chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had said that once anyone comes to the APC he would no longer be regarded as a sinner.

However, the alleged move by Senator Oduah to defect back to the PDP it is alleged is to enable her win reelection to the Senate for an unprecedented third term.

The APC in Anambra is generally known to be very weak having not won even a councilor seat since the emergence of the party in the state.

However, the alleged move by Senator Oduah bid to return to the PDP is said to be causing concern in the party as many are seeing the move as opportunistic.

Some APC chieftains at the federal level who were said to have facilitated her defection to the APC and along the way helped to stall the EFCC case against her were also said to be grumbling.

“They are grumbling that after they made her with the EFCC case that she is now abandoning the APC for the PDP.”
