Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has won the Football Writers’ Association Player Of the Year award for 2021/22. Salah is enjoying yet another extremely-prolific season having scored an impressive 22 goals in the Premier League.
The Egyptian edged out Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and West Ham United’s Declan Rice to pick up the prestigious award for the second time in his career. De Bruyne finished in second place, while Rice came third and Salah won the award with almost 48% of the votes.
The fast lightning winger won the award in his first season at Anfield after he broke the record for the most goals in a 38-game season with 32 goals, surpassing Alan Shearer, Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo who were all tied with 31 goals to their name.
With 22 goals and 14 assists this term, Mohamed Salah is leading the way as the highest goalscorer and the player with the most assists this season as he looks to replicate the feat achieved by only Thierry Henry and Harry Kane in Premier League history who finished the season top in both categories.
Besides the Football Writers’ Association Player Of The Year Award 2022, Salah can also add another individual honour to his cabinet this campaign as he is one of the favourites for the Ballon d’Or this year, and with 35 goal involvements only in the league, the Egyptian will be looking to be the first player from the Premier League to win the award since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008 while playing for Manchester United.
Salah’s form is proving vital for Jurgen Klopp’s men as they look to mount another title challenge, being within just one point of leaders Manchester City with five games to go.
