Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, who became the first person to declare his aspiration to succeed Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as governor of Delta State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on Thursday defected from the PDP as he picked the governorship ticket of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Gbagi began his consultations to succeed Governor Okowa more than three years ago and had been endorsed by several personalities including the governor’s late father, Pa Okowa in his venture to win the PDP ticket.

A former Minister of State for Education, Gbagi, however, stepped down from the race on the eve of the PDP primary election.

Gbagi, however, bounced back to reckoning on the platform of the SDP when he emerged unopposed as the SDP Governorship Candidate during the primary of the party held at the Ughelli Kingdom Hall in Ughelli, Delta State.

He was elected after no other nominations for the ticket was received at the SDP primary.

The motion for his election was moved by a delegate from Bomadi Ward 3, Mr Mike Ujobolo. The motion was supported by another delegate, Pastor Victor Agbula Igbule from Ward 6 in Udu Local Government Area.

Upon the fact that no other motion was received, Gbagi was subsequently unanimously adopted as the SDP governorship candidate for Delta State and declared as such by the returning officer, Pastor Highness Akporode.
