We Will Grow You To Conglomerates, Heritage Bank Tells Female Vocational Training Graduates

The more than 2,000 budding female entrepreneurs who participated at the recent empowerment programme were effusive in their praises of Heritage Bank and other collaborators at their graduation ceremony.

For many of the women who had aspired to run a business in the face of difficulty getting regular employment, the window was a relief in their long search for gainful employment.

Heritage Bank was, however, not alone in the venture. The bank partnered Prime Women Builders Foundation of Nigeria (PWOBFON), a Non-Governmental Organisation and the Ikeja Local Government Area in providing required skills training to female entrepreneurs.

The 2,000 women were trained in several skills including 15 event decoration, small chops making, makeup, baking and pastries.

The other skills taught to the women included bead making, computer training, soap making, tailoring, digital marketing, photography, hairdressing among others.

The bank’s Divisional Head, Corporate Communications, Mr. Fela Ibidapo, explaining the bank’s reason for the venture said it was mainly to emphasise the importance of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to the growth of the economy.

Kemi Olofinkua, convener, PWOBFON, was generally appreciative of the role played by the bank in training the women as she challenged other corporate organisations to follow the direction made by Heritage in boosting women empowerment at the grassroots.

“Heritage Bank has been very supportive and our desire is to see participants of PWOBFON Empowerment Day doing great in their various vocations,” she said.

“Each and every one of us must deliberately find something to occupy us and bring good profit.

“There are lots of vocations that each and every one of us can excel in; so that we will not be frustrated along the part of life,” Olofinkua stated.

The Executive Chairman, Ikeja Local Government Development Council, Dr. Mojeed Alabi Balogun, who was represented by the vice-chairman of the council, Yomi Mayungba, on his part lauded the initiative saying it was in line with the local government’s vision of boosting the capacity of the citizenry at the grassroots.

“The local government is delighted to partner with the NGO, Heritage Bank and other interested parties,” Balogun said.

The graduation ceremony for the participants was an opportunity for the Managing Director of Heritage Bank, Mr. Ifie Sekibo to again project the bank’s vision of building wealth around an African centered world view.

Sekibo who was represented by Ozena Uturu, the bank’s head of brand management and sustainability, said the bank was keen on building entrepreneurs who would grow their enterprises into major multinationals.

Noting the relevance of the partnership with PWOBFON in realizing the goal, he said:

“Apart from skills training, the women have been told the importance of record keeping in business, savings culture and the benefits of having bank accounts as a gateway to accessing other financial services,” Sekibo affirmed.
