Feud Continues After Dangote, Yahaya Bello, Parley As Kogi Goes To Court To Recover Obajana Cement Plant

For the first time since the dispute over the ownership of the Obajana Cement plant broke out, Governor Yahaya Bello met with Alhaji Aliko Dangote at a meeting brokered by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa State and the Chief of Staff to the president, Prof Ibrahim Gambari.

GWG.NG reports that despite the high level intervention and the an order by the Federal Government to reopen the cement plant, the Kogi State Government, Friday decided to drag Dangote Industries Plc to court upon the resolution of stakeholders in the state to recover the cement plant.

Details of the meeting were not immediately available but sources revealed that there was no immediate truce from the parley.

The decision to go to court was made during an emergency meeting on Thursday night between key government officials led by Governor Yahaya Bello and stakeholders representing the state’s various ethnic groups.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, all stakeholders agreed to go to court in the interest of the people and future generations at the meeting, which lasted until the early hours of Friday.

He claimed that the Governor told the House that there would be no retreat from the state’s determination to reclaim its asset, even as he pleaded for calm in the interest of peace.

“This is not a battle for Governor Yahaya Bello or his administration. It concerns the people of Kogi State. In the last 72 hours, well-meaning Nigerians, leaders, and government officials have waded in, pleading with the Governor to consider reopening the plant while negotiations continue.

“The expectations of the state’s over four million Kogites are clear and high, and we want to assure them that the Governor and the Kogi State Government will not jeopardize the people’s right to reclaim their stake in the cement company.

“A series of high-level meetings were held to resolve the impasse, including meetings attended by the Governor and Alh. Aliko Dangote.” There were discussions, and statements of interest were established. However, no agreement has been reached as some desperate parties attempt to mislead the public through the media. We will be nonviolent in our approach because we are confident of green paths to success for the people in this battle for our dear state’s economic future.

“However, we maintain that in this case, the collective asset of the people of Kogi State must be protected and reclaimed. That is the process that the government has begun. We will fight this battle until we receive justice from the courts. This dispute cannot be resolved by a committee “According to the statement.
