Ortom Hails Retiring DSS Director In Benue
Governor Samuel Ortom has lauded the selfless and meritorious services rendered to Benue State by the retiring State Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Mr Adebayo Ilupeju.
The Governor spoke Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 during a cocktail party and command performance in honour of the retiring security chief held at the new Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
Governor Ortom affirmed that Mr Ilupeju carried out his assignment with a high sense of professionalism and patriotism, stating that “He ensured justice and fairness to everyone in all circumstances about his office.”
He stated that the retiring state security chief, “never worked in isolation” but carried all persons along in the discharge of his duties for the good of all citizens.
He described Mr Ilupeju as an upright man and a worthy ambassador of the country because he demonstrated sterling leadership qualities without compromising his rules of engagement all through his service in the state.
The Governor maintained that even though he had worked with several heads of security agencies in the state, it was the first time he had the opportunity of hosting a retiring security chief, noting that the honour done to the retiring DSS State Director was a mark of appreciation for his diligent and impartial service.
“What we are done today is the beginning of honours that will be showered on you from now onwards. You have been an exceptional intelligence officer who served your fatherland faithfully. And God will continue to bless you at all times,” the Governor stated.
He further acknowledged the effective collaboration of the DSS under the leadership of the retiring director with the State Government for the protection of lives and property, pointing out that the security formation under Mr Ilupeju added immense value to the state.
While wishing Mr Ilupeju a happy retirement and success in his future endeavours, Governor Ortom enjoined him to consider Benue State as his second home, emphasising that he would be welcomed anytime as an honorary citizen of the state.
In his emotion-laden response, Mr Ilupeju who was overwhelmed with joy said he had enjoyed a smooth and cordial working relationship with the people and Government of Benue State throughout his years of service in the state.
The retiring DSS Director particularly acknowledged Governor Ortom whom he noted made his work easier in the state, stating that the Governor “Never for one day asked me to do anything wrong or arrest anyone unjustly. He never did.”
He maintained that he was retiring from his career as a fulfilled man having clocked retirement age, noting that he enjoyed his last promotion to the rank of Assistant Director General while serving in Benue State.
Mr Ilupeju expressed his commitment to always uphold the truth and justice even in his retirement, stressing that he was retiring with unblemished service records.
He further thanked Governor Ortom and the people of Benue for giving him the support to succeed in his assignment, adding that the rewarding experience he had in Benue would remain indelible in his life’s journey.
