Six Reasons New Year Resolutions Fail

New Year Resolutions

Most people who fail to fulfill their New Year resolutions blame it on a lack of time, resources, motivation, or a loss of zeal after starting. According to research, only about 16 percent of people all over the world  are able to follow their resolutions adopted at the beginning of a New Year.

The majority gives up within one to six weeks of starting.

Here are six reasons why people fail to achieve their New Year resolutions:

Lack of Planning

Great planning is always required for a good implementation. It is more realistic if you plan the action steps around the resolution, break them down into smaller pieces, and schedule them on the calendar.

You didn’t set yourself up for success

We overestimate our ability to change our own behaviour. We may think we are completely in control of our own behaviour, but science shows that our behaviour is very much influenced by our environment.

You tried to do it alone

We’re highly influenced by the people around us. If you don’t have a supportive network helping you achieve your New Year resolutions you may fail as it’s that much harder for you to make progress.

Don’t forget that many people have already paved the path for you, and you can learn from their successes and failures.

You knew deep down you wouldn’t do it

Oftentimes, people underestimate how difficult achieving a goal will be, and that is what causes them to fail. Still, many people who make lofty New Year’s Resolutions know deep down that there is a good chance they’ll probably fail

Inability to measure progress

If you don’t measure it, you can’t improve it.  With this in mind, it can be said that tracking your progress is a missing link between your daily actions and achieving your resolution.

You are not setting milestone

When thinking about milestones, it’s best to create them based on the actions that lead to results. That way you are motivated by the effort that brings results.
