Pastor Who Staged His Kidnap Twice Speaks
Albarka Bitrus Sukunya, a pastor from Jos who was detained on Wednesday, January 11, on suspicion of staging his kidnapping, has admitted to the police that he did it because he wanted the ransom to resolve his financial difficulties.
According to the Plateau State Police Command, Mr. Albarka, a minister of the ECWA Church, colluded with his gang to receive ransom to secure his ‘release.’
According to a statement from the police, the pastor allegedly collected N400,000 on November 14 and then faked a second kidnapping of himself on November 30 to obtain N200,000 from churchgoers.
Baruk Mailale and Nathaniel Bitrus, two collaborators in the staged kidnapping, were reportedly seized by Nassarawa Gwong Police Division agents in Jos-North LGA, while efforts to apprehend a third suspect, are being stepped up.
The preacher expressed contrition for his actions on Thursday, January 12, during a parade at the police headquarters.
“I put myself into these activities due of the financial difficulties I am experiencing,” he claimed. I regret doing the first one because I felt bad. The money I had with me when I left was gone. I was considering going back”.
