An Agbor, Delta State community leader and public affairs analyst, Mr. Williams Eghebi, has said that despite the excruciating pains Nigerians currently face over the Naira redesign, that the gains of the new policy have enormous gains.

He stated this in the early hours of Valentine’s Day in Agbor.

‘ I have resisted the urge to talk about the harassment of Mr. Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Emefiele, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria by agents of the Department of State Security, DSS. I am glad that the CBN Governor was able to manifest his Agbor blood in him by staying focused with steely resolve. However with the attacks turning political and tribal, I have got to speak in defence of my kinsman”

Continuing, he said the nation will benefit  heavily with the currency redesign, adding that the policy is not targeted at the poor but the  custodians of toxic bloated  money.

In his opinion, the new currency policy “will reduce the volume of money in circulation, check activities of criminals such as  kidnappers and drug barons, encourage electronic and internet banking as well as helping to discourage vote buying which will consolidate our fragile democracy.”

With regards to threat to personal safety of the CBN Governor, the community advocate, warned that any harm done to the apex bank chief will receive reverberating consequences in manifolds.

“Those fighting Mr. Emefiele do not care a hoot about us. When University teachers stayed at home over poor working conditions, we didn’t hear from the governors. They lost their voices on the current petrol scarcity and geometric hike in prices. They are yet to say anything over the brutality Nigerians in India are daily exposed to. We know the enemies of Nigeria. Mr. Emefiele is not a part.”

While appealing to the public to resist any urge from inordinate politicians  to cause civil unrest, he charged the apex bank to remain resolute to ensure the full maturity of the well-thought out policy.

“There is section of the media motivated by partisan and tribal leanings that continue to insult and make all manner of allegations against the CBN Governor. These attacks are not only misleading but laden with selfish innuendos. The currency redesign is a policy of APC Government. The APC leaders who  are against the policy should be disciplined. It’s the height of anti party. The CBN Governor is a member of the ruling APC. President Buhari who approved the policy is a member of APC. Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Presidential Candidate of the party  boasted he made Buhari the President. He  should therefore feed from the meal he served the rest of Nigerians.”

Mr. Eghebi said the naira redesign policy and voting system are the only  genuine legacy President Buhari may bequeath the country.”
