Delta PDP Records Historic Losses In Senate Seats
In an unprecedented development the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has for the first time lost the majority of Senate seats in Delta State putting to light increasing threats to the once impregnable hold of the party in the affairs of the state.
GWG.ng reports that the All Progressives Congress, APC won two of the Senate seats in Delta Central and Delta South while the PDP won one seat in Delta North.
Until now, the PDP had only conceded the Delta Central and maintained the North and South seats.
GWG.ng reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Joel-Onowakpo Thomas winner of the Delta South Senatorial District in the Feb. 25 National Assembly elections.
Prof. Peretimina Anthony, the Returning Officer (RO) for the election, on Tuesday declared Thomas winner of the contest.
The result was announced at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
Anthony said that Thomas, a former Chairman of Delta Board of Internal Revenue (DBIR) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) senatorial candidate, polled a total 49, 955 votes.
He added that Senator-elect defeated Mr Michael Diden, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who scored a total of 47,656 votes.
