2023 Nigeria Decides
BREAKING: Ibori’s Men Endorse Omo-Agege For Delta Guber
In a further blow to the aspirations of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to retain Delta State, the Chief James Ibori inspired Delta United Group, DUG has endorsed the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
The DUG which was the platform for the governorship aspiration of Olorogun David Edevbie took the decision on Monday morning. A statement issued by the group following the endorsement blamed the obstinacy of the leadership of the party in the state for the decision.
The decision came as Governor Ifeanyi Okowa was on the roads of Abuja fighting to canvass his case that the APC rigged him out of his aspiration to be vice-president.
As the governor canvassed his case of being rigged out of the presidential election, the DUG was in Delta State removing the rug from under his feet in his local fiefdom with the decision to back Omo-Agege in the governorship election.
Governor Okowa is largely believed to have inspired the victory of the PDP governorship candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori in the PDP primaries as against the desire of Chief Ibori who had backed Edevbie.
Edevbie who is the leader of the DUG like Okowa and Omo-Agege served in the Ibori government.
Justifying its decision to endorse Omo-Agege, the DUG in the statement made available to GWG.ng said that the leadership of the PDP in Delta refused the hand of reconciliation after the conclusion of the court case it instituted after the cantankerous primary.
The group said that Omo-Agege on the other hand pursued the group and has agreed to incorporate the Modernisation Agenda of Olorogun David Edebvie into his Build A New Delta BAND governance agenda for Delta State.
“It is on this basis and the general yearnings of Deltans and friends of Delta that we, as members of the Delta Unity Group (DUG) fully endorse the candidacy of the APC governorship candidate and Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in the forthcoming Delta State govenroship elections holding on 11th March, 2023.”
The statement was signed by Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, chairman, Board of Trustees, DUG, Chiedu Ebie Esq, co-convener and Chief Itiako Ikpokpo, co-convener.
