Pregnant Nigerian Lady Drowns As Hippopotamus Attacks Boat

A pregnant woman was allegedly killed by a wild hippopotamus at the old bridge spanning the River Benue in Makurdi, the capital of the Benue state.

An eyewitness account told The Nation the victim went to the island with other traders to buy vegetables for commercial purposes when the boat was attacked at the shore of the river on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

The woman, whose identity was unknown, was reportedly being transported on an engine boat that had a problem and was switched to a wooden one.

The victim drowned when the attacked boat was torn to pieces. On Wednesday, April 19, a search team was organized, and her body was found.
