Speculations as to the opposition of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to the re-election of Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin to the House of Representatives were laid to rest on Thursday after the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP came out to thank the governor for supporting its candidate to emerge victorious.

The member-elect for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Aliyu Datti Yako who defeated the incumbent, Jibrin has also thanked the governor vowing to represent every shade of the constituency.

He spoke at a gathering to celebrate the landmark victory that stopped Dr. Jibrin from returning to the House of Representatives.

Dr. Jibrin, the feared and sometimes controversial member of the House of Representatives who opened the claim of budget padding in the National Assembly. He managed the campaign for Femi Gbajabiamila to emerge Speaker of the House and before then also managed the campaign of Yakubu Dogara to emerge Speaker in the preceding House.

He, however, lost his bid to return to the House of Representatives in the rerun election conducted last Saturday.

Before then insinuations of a rift with the governor were indicated when he was recently stopped from seeing Governor Ganduje during the celebrations that marked the Supreme Court victory of the governor in the elections.

Yako who defeated Jibrin in the rerun election while speaking at the reception on Thursday said:

“We depended on God to see us through and He did what we never expected. We wake up in our constituency to see everybody becoming PDP supporter since from Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So it is necessary that we thank all the leaders in Kiru/Bebeji.

“We thank Governor Ganduje, the party (APC), the police, INEC and others for ensuring a peaceful and smooth conduct of election and allowing Democracy to take it due place,” Yako said.

Dankaka Hussaini Bebeji, the acting chairman of the PDP in the state also thanked Ganduje for the victory of the party.

Jibrin had following the announcement of the results alleged a conspiracy against him during the election saying that his mandate was stolen but pledged not to challenge the outcome of the rerun at the tribunal.
