Osinbajo Under Fire For Holding Thanksgiving Service During Christian Protest
The decision of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to hold a Thanksgiving service, on Sunday, while the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye led a prayer protest against the spate of insecurity in the country has courted him controversy on social media.
Osinbajo held a Thanksgiving Service to commemorate the anniversary of the helicopter crash he and 11 other passengers survived in the buildup to the last election, in Kabba, Kogi State, one year ago.
Meanwhile, same Sunday, Pastor Adeboye led a prayer protest, in collaboration with Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, over the spate of insecurity in the country.
Many Nigerians have questioned the Vice President for carrying out the Thanksgiving service, describing the move as insensitive, considering the prevailing atmosphere occasioned by the killings of innocent citizens, especially in the North-East region of the country.
Others opined that Osinbajo is not in support of the prayer protest, while condemning the silence posture of Osinbajo on issue of insecurity and other national issues.
There was also opinion that Osinbajo who is a senior pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God could have tacitly shifted the Thanksgiving Service.
