Division In Atiku’s Camp Over PEPT Judgment

The verdict by the Presidential Election Tribunal (PEPT) upholding Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election as Nigeria’s president has elicited various reactions from some notable associates of Atiku Abubakar with Ben Murray-Bruce asking him to dump an appeal to the Supreme Court.

However, Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and a former presidential aspirant on his part and himself an associate of Atiku expressed disappointment in the PEPT’s decision. He took to his X page to share his thoughts, stating that the verdict had turned Nigeria’s constitution upside down. He also noted that those behind the decision lacked a sense of history. Momodu concluded by expressing hope for a better future for Nigeria.

Ben Murray-Bruce, a businessman and former Senator representing Bayelsa East, urged the aggrieved presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, to follow the example set by former President Goodluck Jonathan. He emphasized the importance of accepting election results in the interest of democracy and the nation’s progress. Murray-Bruce called for national unity and urged everyone to move forward for the betterment of the country.

On the other hand, Reno Omokri, a PDP chieftain and former presidential aide and spokesman of the Atiku campaign used the opportunity to mock his erstwhile associate, Peter Obi over the PEPT judgment. Omokri humorously pointed out that Obi had been “defeated in court” and “detained at Heathrow Airport.”
