DSS Disowns Lawal Daura
Warns Public Against Dealing With Former DG
The Department of State Services, DSS has warned public against dealing with its erstwhile director-general, Alhaji Lawal Daura warning that any one who deals with him as the director-general or his representatives on issues pertaining to the agency does so at his or her own risk.
The warnings follows reports that Daura who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari after he came to office is still controlling the affairs of the agency despite his unceremonious removal by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo when he acted as president.
Osinbajo had appointed Matthew Seiyefa as the acting director-general of the agency but Buhari within 40 days removed him and appointed a substantive director-general in the person of Yusuf Bichi from Kano State fueling claims that the president did not want a southerner in the sensitive position.
A statement from the DSS rebuffing claims that Daura had returned to the position of influence in the agency read thus:
“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to insinuations and wide speculations that its former Director General, Alhaji Lawal Musa DAURA mni, still controls affairs at the Agency, long after his removal from Office.
“While the Service debunks this false belief, it warns that any person or group that further engages him or his representatives/associates does so at their own peril.
The Service will not tolerate acts of impersonation designed to undermine it and will decisively deal with person(s), no matter how highly placed, that may engage in such behaviour.
“The public should, therefore, note this and avoid circumstances under which unsuspecting persons may be deceived.
“On the other hand, the DSS continues to recommit itself to the core values of professionalism, selflessness, vigilance and the rule of law that it has always been identified with.”
