Kumuyi Denies Flouting Order On Gatherings
By Ayodele Oluwafemi
The Deeper Life Bible Ministry (DLBM) has debunked reports that the General Superintendent of the Church, Pastor William Kumuyi held a crusade, on Thursday, despite the government ban of social and religious gatherings.
On Thursday, there was an online publication (Not GreenwhiteGreen) with the headline “Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life holds crusade despite govt ban” and the story suggested that the church held a crusade at its headquarters in Gbagada, Lagos State.
Debunking the publication, the church, in a statement issued by its secretary, Pastor Afuwape S.M. disclosed that the programme held on Thursday tagged “Power Night” was a recorded version of the previous edition held sometimes ago and was broadcast via satellite and online platforms to members in local districts.
According to the statement, the church described the publication as misleading, mischievous and totally untrue, noting that the church is law abiding.
Part of the statement reads,
“Generally, it is not our practice to join issues with media outlets, but as a responsible and law-abiding church, we believe that we need to set the record straight as the content of the articles which went viral online, was misleading, mischievous and totally untrue.
“In line with the directives of the Lagos State Government, on Wednesday, 18th March 2020, limiting social and religious gatherings to a maximum of 50 persons, our church has in compliance held out monthly power night service at local districts, where an old message of out General Superintendent was transmitted by Satellite broadcast.
“It bears restating that it was not a new service, but the message from an old programme that was broadcast worldwide. The grossly misleading report mis-represented the actual situation, hence the need to set the records straight.”
