Chelsea, Others Lose Out As Osimhen Extends Napoli Contract Till 2026
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has committed to Napoli, renewing his contract with the Italian club, a move anticipated to extend his tenure until 2026.
The official announcement of this contract extension was made by Napoli, the Italian champions, through their social media platform on Saturday. Accompanied by a snapshot of the moment, the post declared, “Victor & Napoli together until 2026 💙.”
While specific details of the new contract remain undisclosed by Napoli, reports from Italian media suggest the inclusion of a release clause ranging between 120 million and 130 million euros ($132 million and $143 million). This strategic addition aims to prevent the loss of their star player to potential suitors from the Premier League without ensuring financial compensation for the club.
Osimhen’s previous contract was set to expire in June 2025, making the renewal a focal point of discussion in Italy, especially following Napoli’s triumph in securing their first league title in over three decades last season. During the tenure of departed coach Luciano Spalletti, Osimhen played a pivotal role, scoring 26 league goals as Napoli captivated Europe with their exhilarating style of football.
Since joining from Lille in 2020, Osimhen has showcased his scoring prowess, accumulating a total of 67 goals in 118 appearances for Napoli.
Despite the contract extension news, Napoli currently faces challenges in Serie A, trailing 14 points behind league leaders Inter. The team’s upcoming fixture against rivals Roma on Sunday night and their recent elimination from the Italian Cup by Frosinone add to the complexities of their current season.
