Student in for months

Somtochukwu Okwuoha, a 26-year-old Nigerian Master’s student at Dundee University in Scotland, has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for making terrorism threats against staff and students.

The Peth Sheriff Court’s guilty verdict also comes with the additional consequence of deportation upon completing the sentence.

Okwuoha, an international energy studies student, reportedly made alarming claims about his capacity for violence. Witnesses disclosed that he asserted having a military background and threatened to unleash chaos by creating bombs and releasing a deadly virus on the city. Shockingly, he purported to have enlisted the support of the terror group ISIS, intending to bomb the university and execute a chemical attack on the city.

Sheriff William Wood underscored the public safety concern, stating, “Your presence in the United Kingdom is not conducive to the public good,” as he recommended deportation after Okwuoha served his prison term.

The charges against Okwuoha were extensive, encompassing threats directed at fellow students and staff. His actions included attempts to have a female student removed from her course, leading to his suspension. Subsequently, Okwuoha turned his threats toward staff, expressing intentions of mass murder, terrorism, planting bombs, using biological weapons, revealing staff details internationally, and claiming to have planted bombs at Dundee University.

The court’s decision reflects the severity of Okwuoha’s actions, emphasizing the need for legal consequences to safeguard public safety. The sentence and deportation recommendation aim to address the significant threat posed by Okwuoha’s behavior.
