Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has offered a glimpse into the unique protocol of the Senate by revealing that drinks are not allowed in the chambers to prevent their potential use as weapons during intense sessions. The Kogi Central lawmaker shared this insight in an Instagram post on Saturday as the Senate convened to pass the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

In the Instagram update, Senator Natasha humorously explained that she logged into Instagram to combat sleepiness during the Senate deliberations. She shared a light-hearted perspective on the prohibition of drinks in the chambers, stating that it’s a precautionary measure to avoid their transformation into potential projectiles during heated debates.

“At the plenary now and sleepy 🥱 A cup of coffee would help but drinks aren’t allowed in the chambers so they don’t end up being weapons of attack during heated sessions 😂 So I decided to spend a ‘wake-up’ minute on Instagram,” Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote in explaining why drinks are not allowed into the Senate chambers.

While providing a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Senate proceedings, she also took a moment to share details about her outfit, mentioning that silk, satin, crystals, pearls, and lace are among her favorite wardrobe choices.

In related news, GWG.ng reports that the Senate has passed the 2024 budget on the same day, with an increase of approximately N1.2 trillion, bringing the total budget to N28.7 trillion. The red chamber adjusted the benchmark for oil price, setting it at $77.96 per barrel, reflecting current market values.
