Alhaji Usman Ododo is poised to assume the office of Kogi State Governor Saturday, January 27, taking the reins from outgoing Governor Yahaya Bello.

Ododo was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after he secured victory in the November 11, 2023, gubernatorial election, polling 446,237 votes against his closest rival, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 259,052.

Despite a legal challenge to his victory by Ajaka, Ododo is set to be inaugurated as the governor, ushering in a new era for Kogi State. Notably, Ododo’s ascension marks a continuation of leadership from the Central senatorial district, following in the footsteps of Governor Bello.

The atmosphere in Lokoja, the state capital, is charged with excitement as guests from across the country converge for the inauguration ceremony. However, concerns over security have prompted the Kogi State Police Command to issue a stern warning to potential troublemakers.

Commissioner of Police Bethrand Onuoha emphasized that security operatives would decisively deal with any political thugs or miscreants attempting to disrupt the peace of the state during the inauguration. The warning was prompted by intelligence indicating plans by hoodlums to attack guests and create disharmony.

“We are ready to deal with any miscreants,” declared CP Onuoha, urging those with grievances to pursue legal channels. He stressed that any actions leading to a breakdown of law and order would not be tolerated.

As Kogi anticipates a new chapter in its governance, all eyes are on the inauguration ceremony, with security forces poised to ensure a smooth transition and maintain peace in the state.
