Over 1500 Central Bank of Nigeria Staff Set to Resume in Lagos Following Relocation

In a significant development, more than 1500 members of staff from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are poised to commence work at its Lagos office this Friday, marking their redeployment from the headquarters in Abuja.

The decision to relocate certain departments of the CBN and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) corporate headquarters to Lagos was reaffirmed by President Bola Tinubu’s government on Monday. The move is positioned as an initiative to enhance efficiency and streamline operational costs.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, clarified in a press statement on Sunday that the decision was not politically motivated, emphasizing that it aims to boost efficiency rather than favor any specific region.

Sources within the apex bank confirmed that the relocation plan, which has stirred controversy, is progressing, with affected staff members scheduled to resume their duties on February 2.

“Yes, the plan is still on, and they will resume work by February 2, which is the first week of next month,” stated an official familiar with the matter.
